In front of family, friends, and coaches on Thursday evening the Boiling Springs athletics department honored their senior athletes from spring sports that had their seasons cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic with a parade behind the school where each student was accompanied by family in their vehicles as their accomplishments were read out with the sounds of car horns and cheers following the announcement of each name. The parade is just another show of support the athletic department has provided to support the 2020 spring sports as for the last three weeks signs were placed in front of the ninth grade campus along Highway 9 with the names of each athlete and the sports that they play.
"I feel bad for our senior athletes because you've worked all this time playing a sport that you love with people you've grown up around playing these sports with and then having that last opportunity taken away from you," said Boiling Springs athletic director Hal McManus. "We know there's no way we can do enough to get back their senior year but we wanted to do some things to show them that they are special to us." McManus said that they placed the signs in front of the ninth grade campus because it is one of the busiest spots in Boiling Springs that large numbers of people in the community pass by everyday. "I don't think there could have been a better place to put the signs," said McManus. "Everybody in Boiling Springs passes by that campus and can see those signs. It has been nice seeing the athletes and their parents out there taking pictures with their signs and hopefully it means something to them." He also said that the reason for the parade was that he wanted to give each of the seniors a senior night that they would normally be having during a normal season. "We have thirty-eight seniors participating in spring sports and we wanted them to each have their own senior nights," said McManus. "We wanted to recognize them just like we would if it was a normal senior night." The thirty eight seniors that were honored on Thursday night included from girls lacrosse Tori Rochester, Madelyn Robinson, Sarah Patton, and Kylie Bridges while the boys lacrosse team honored Raj Patel, Andrew Hospodar, Eli Byrd, and Connor Bates. The softball team recognized their lone senior Abbie Threatt while the baseball team honored Aaron Thomas, Ben Hutchins, and Mason Foy. The girls soccer team had the most players recognized as they had eight seniors including Rylen Beaman, Cora Brendle, Emma Dube, Kate Johnson, Natalie Koller, Victoria McAbee, Tiziana Ortega, and Elainee Sprinkle. The boys soccer team was just behind them in seniors as they honored seven athletes as Juan Clemente-Artega, Seth Johnson, Jason Murray, Anthony Ruiz, Jesus Chavez Sanchez, Vadim Sili, and Victor Valdivia were all recognized. Boiling Springs boys tennis had three seniors honored as Brett Belcher, Clayton Elder, and Spencer Woodall were all recognized. The Bulldogs track team honored four athletes from the boys track team as Nathan Fish, Hayden Martin, Garrett Miller, and Josh Steadman were all recognized while the girls team honored three athletes including Briana Bryant, Christina Evans, and Kaijah Scott. The Boiling Springs Sports Journal would also like to send our congratulations to these seniors as well along with the whole 2020 graduating class. Comments are closed.
