BOILING SPRINGS, SC - On Wednesday night the Boiling Springs track and field team honored their senior runners and came away with numerous personal bests as well as some school record performances.
The Bulldogs men's team defeated Chesnee, Gaffney, and High Point only falling to Byrnes while the girl's team came away with the same results against the same teams. "It's a great performance for our seniors to go out in front of their home crowd with," said Bulldogs head track coach Rashad Graham. "We have a small group of seniors but a lot of them do everything they can to help us win and just lead by example while helping some of the younger athletes come along to see what our standard is as Bulldogs." Boiling Springs started out the night in impressive fashion as the boy's 4x100m team set a school record with a time of 42.27 set by the team of Carmello Martin, JoJo Barrett, Kristion Thompson, and Spencer Eison. With the Bulldogs trailing by a few meters going into the final turn, senior Carmello Martin overcame the distance passing the Byrnes runner just before the finish line to give the Bulldogs the victory. Martin also had a big victory in the boy's 200m event as he defeated the field with a time of 21.32, which was seven-tenths of a second in front of second place. The event also marked the final time that Martin will race in front of his home crowd stands and leaving quite a legacy. "Carmello has had an amazing career here at Boiling Springs," said Graham. "He's just a ball of energy and that's obvious to anyone that has been around him. He talks about wanting to leave his mark on Boiling Springs and this year he is doing just that with his performance at the Nike event in New York and also setting a couple of school records. He's had a great career and all you can do is commend him on it." Jake Sapp added victories for the Bulldogs in the 800m event, the 1600m event (5:00.99), and the 3200m event (11:06.29). Boiling Springs' Grayson Crowe won the 110m hurdles event with a time of 16.20, which was just six one-hundredths ahead of second place Lathum Jackson of Byrnes. Spencer Eison added a victory for the Bulldogs in the triple jump with a distance of 44' 4". In the girl's 1600m event, the Bulldogs took a one, two, three finish as Ainsley Steading won the event with a time of 5:57.35 followed by Gabriella Sanchez in second place and Alyssa Skory in third place. It was almost four Bulldogs in the top four spots but Navy Turner was just beat to the line by Claire Walker from Chesnee. Turner did add a third-place finish in the 800m event with a time of 2:54.10 for the Bulldogs. Kimora Arthur came away with a second-place finish in the 400m event with a time of 1:11.47, which was less than a second behind first-place finisher Anslie Middleton of Chesnee. In the girl's 100m hurdles, the Bulldogs got a second and third place finish from Sydney Watson and Katelyn Grate who were just beaten to the line by Byrnes runner Kennedy Wright. Watson also came away with a third-place finish in the 200m event with a time of 26.97 which was just over a second behind first place. Katelyn Grate also added a second-place finish in the girl's long jump event with a distance of 15' 3" and a third-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 32' 8". Julia Graham added a third-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 32' 11" just ahead of teammate Tatyona Burrison. Za'niya Jefferies added a third-place finish in the girls 400m hurdles event for the Bulldogs. Fellow district school Chesnee had some strong performances as well as Terrell Kesler won the 100m sprint with a time of 11.07 while Jayden Williams added a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles for the Eagles. The Eagles won the girl's 4x800m relay event with a time of 11:11.37 as Chesnee's Amy Rae Breitenbach finished second in the girls discuss with a distance of 81' 7" while Garrett Williams added a second-place finish in the boy's discuss with a distance of 131' 1". The Bulldogs and Eagles will now turn their focus to the Spartanburg County meet that will be held at Dorman High School from April 26-27th. SPARTANBURG, SC - After falling to Spartanburg earlier this season, the Boiling Springs boys lacrosse team rebounded with an 18-6 road victory against the Vikings to punch their ticket into the 5A playoffs.
The Bulldogs jumped out early with two goals from Lincoln Huskey off assists from Elijah Smith and Javin Chimm. Smith, Dawson Martini, and Brendan Riordan scored three more goals in the first quarter to hold on to their early lead. Huskey added two more goals in the second quarter as Chase Miller, Elijah Smith, Campbell Johnson, Dawson Martini, and Peyton Tanner to push their score to 12 goals in favor of the Bulldogs. Martini (2), Elijah Smith, Monty Carmona, Javin Chimm, and Dylan Snider all accounted for the Bulldogs final six goals in the second half as the Bulldogs improved their record to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in region play. Elijah Smith led the Bulldogs with four assists while Javin Chimm led the Bulldogs in groundballs with 14. The victory over the Vikings ended the Bulldogs regular season, they will now wait for the 5A playoff brackets to be released for their playoff destination. |
