CHESNEE, SC- The Chesnee rally came up just short as the Ninety Six Wildcats downed the Eagles 7-6 in eight innings to open the AA District I playoffs.
The Wildcats built an early lead as they struck for four runs in the top of the first. The Wildcats had five consecutive batters reach base with one out as Bailey Hayes got things started with a walk and advanced on Ty Ridlehover's single. Parker Sutley drove in the first run with a RBI single followed by Ryder Guthrie's two RBI double before Hamp Ashley capped the inning with a RBI single. The Eagles struck back with a run in the bottom of the first inning as Carson Gossett drew a leadoff walk, and later stole second. Aiden Greene drove him in with a RBI single to cut the Wildcats lead to 4-1. The Wildcats tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to expand the lead to 6-1 as Evan Adams drew a leadoff and advanced to third on an error, he later scored on a Bailey Hayes RBI sacrifice fly. Ty Ridlehover followed with a single and later scored on Parker Sutley's RBI double. The Eagles swung back with a big five run bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at six runs a piece. Aiden Greene drew a one out walk. The Eagles later saw five consecutive batters reach base with two outs. Dawson Pruitt drove in the first run on a RBI single. Kyle Martin would drive in a pair of runs with a two RBI single before later scoring on a wild pitch. Carson Gossett also picked up a RBI single. Both teams had chances to plate a run in the seventh inning, but were unable to scratch across a run. The Wildcats plated the winning run in the top of the eighth as Carver Davis drew a leadoff walk and Evan Adams singled to setup Bailey Hayes' RBI single to give the Wildcats a 7-6 lead. Bailey Hayes finished with two hits including a double and two RBIs. Parker Sutley and Ryder Guthrie also picked up two RBIs. Sutley and Hamp Ashley picked up three hits each for the Wildcats with Sutley hitting a double. Kyle Martin led the Eagles with a hit and two RBIs and he scored a run. Paul Martin picked up two hits for the Eagles. On the other side of the bracket, the Strom Thurmond Rebels downed the Keenan Raiders 12-2 in five innings. Both teams will be back in action on Thursday as Ninety Six travels to Strom Thurmond in a winner's bracket game while Chesnee hosts Keenan in an elimination game. Comments are closed.
