LIBERTY. SC - Liberty used thirty-five second half points to down Chesnee 49-41 in the regular season finale for both teams on Friday night.
Until midway through the second quarter both teams traded touchdowns as Hayden Webb and KJ Proctor each had scoring runs for the Eagles while Peyton Reed and Seth Terry each had scores for Liberty with Terry's being a sixty-yard run. The Eagles closed out the first half strong as Kaleb Mason had a seventy-eight-yard kick return to give the Eagles the lead at 21-14 with 7:46 to go in the first half. Hayden Webb added his second touchdown run for the Eagles this time from eighteen yards out just two minutes later. Proctor closed the half with a 20-yard scoring strike to Ezequiel Lazarin, their second touchdown connection of the season. The Eagles took a 35-14 lead into the half, but Liberty opened the second half with an answer as the Red Devils scored thirty-five unanswered points to take a 49-35 lead. Seth Terry scored two of the touchdowns for the Red Devils while Austin Smith and Peyton Reed each added one of their own. The big blow came on a twenty-four-yard fumble recovery by Skylar Teague to make it 49-35. Chesnee's Kyle Martin added an eight-yard scoring run to make it 49-41 as the Eagles tried to make a comeback. KJ Proctor finished with 194 total yards and two's scores for the Eagles while Kyle Martin also added 127 total yards. Austin Bigford led the Eagles with seven and a half tackles. Seth Terry finished with 144 yards rushing for the Red Devils, and Peyton Reed added 133 yards rushing. The Eagles will be on the road next week to open the AA playoffs as they finished in a three-way tie for third place. Chesnee will have to wait until the tiebreaker is sorted out to learn their opponent for next week. Comments are closed.
