The Chesnee softball team went on the road to finish their regular season with a 12-0 victory over Lewisville in six innings but it was also a historic night for one Eagles player. In the top of the fifth inning Paige Scruggs hit a n impressive home run to eft field for her school single season record ninth homerun of the season. Scruggs was one of seven Eagles players to drive in a run on Tuesday night and one of eight to score while ten different Eagles registered a hit. Scruggs finished the night two of four with two runs scored along with a RBI on her home run to go along with a double earlier in the game. Callie Burns, Mattie Martin, Emily Pruett, and Hannah Henderson each registered two hits for the Eagles on Tuesday night. Ali Scruggs was a perfect four of four at the plate with a RBI and three runs scored while Maddie Handy was three of four with a run scored and a double. Sam Carver and Paige Scruggs combined to pitch the shutout as Carver allowed one hit over four innings with five strikeouts while Scruggs scattered two hits over two innings of work. The Eagles will start the playoffs on Friday night as they host Saluda with a 6:00 PM scheduled first pitch. Cole Hoskyns got the start for the Eagles on the mound and pitched a strong two innings but with a first round playoff matchup coming up on Friday the Eagles limited Hoskyns pitches to keep him available for the playoff opener as his only blemish on Tuesday night was a walk in his two innings of work. The Yellow Jackets scored five runs in the third inning as Riley Huggins led off with a double and later scored on a error. TJ Betenbaugh, Willie Jeter, Branson Cook, and Bryant Whitlock each drove in a run for the Yellow Jackets with Cook coming away with a RBI double. The Eagles got three runs back in the bottom half of the third inning as Camden Burns led off with a bunt single before later scoring on Landon Thompson's two RBI double. Thompson scored on a deep double off the bat of Cole Hoskyns as Hoskyns came within inches of a homer as the ball hit the top of the wall. Carson Williamson pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth innings to try and keep the Eagles in it as the lone hit he allowed was quickly erased on a double play. Union's Tanner Hardin drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the top of the fourth inning before another run scored on an error to make the score 7-3. The Jackets tacked on another run in the top of the seventh inning as Brian Renwick scored on an Eagles error. Chesnee will start the playoffs on Friday with a 8:00 PM first pitch as the travel to the Midlands Dixie Youth Complex to take on Gray Collegiate in the first round of the 2A playoffs.
