Chapman used a big offensive first quarter to help down the Chesnee Eagles 48-20 in the final regular season game for both teams.
Chapman opened up the scoring early in the first quarter on their second play from scrimmage with a ten yard touchdown run by Brandon Jones, his first of two touchdowns on the night. On the next Chapman drive, Mikele Colasurdo recorded his first of three touchdowns on the night as he hit Noah Twitty for a ten yard touchdown pass. Colasurdo would add a fifteen yard touchdown run and another touchdown pass to Twitty from forty-two yards out as all of Colasurdo's touchdowns came in the first quarter. Thomas Grigg returned a blocked punt thirty-two yards for another Panthers touchdown to close out the first quarter scoring. Chapman opened the second quarter scoring as Drew Settle hit Carlos Parks for a thirty yard strike after a nice play by Parks. Chesnee got on the board with a one yard Jacob Kimbrell run setup by another Kimbrell run that converted a fourth down deep in Chapman territory. Kimbrell had a nice game running the ball as he finished with eighty-eight yards rushing on fifteen carries and has continued to improve throughout the season running the ball something that Chesnee Head Coach Bill Owens has been proud of. "it is something we have tried to add throughout the season so people don't just key on our running back,” said Coach Owens. “He has adapted well to it and our coaching staff has done a good job of preparing him." Chesnee would get back on the board with a thirteen yard pass from Kimbrell to Matthew Lawter as Lawter also had a nice night finishing with four catches for thirty-two yards and a touchdown. Chapman scored on their first drive of the second half as Brandon Jones scored on a one yard touchdown run. Chesnee's Rodney Alexander would score the final touchdown of the game with a six yard run late in the fourth quarter. Two bright spots defensively for the Eagles were Colby Davis and Camden Burns as Davis recorded his first varsity sack on Thursday night and Burns forced Chapman's lone turnover as he intercepted a Chapman pass for his first career interception. Burns has been a bright spot for the Eagle defense this season after transitioning to linebacker from quarterback just before the season started and Coach Owens is proud of the season Burns is having. "Everybody on this team has a role, and Camden Burns does a good job. He has started every game for us defensively, and played every snap tonight." Owens said. The Eagles battle hard all night, and Coach Owens was pleased to see his team's effort continue to be strong all night. "We fought hard all night long, there is a reason that Chapman is as good as they are.” The Eagles will travel to Union County in two weeks to open the 3A playoffs. Comments are closed.
