ABBEVILLE, SC - The Chesnee Eagles went on the road to Abbeville and fell to the Panthers 56-15 in a region matchup on Friday night.
With the loss the Eagles fall to 1-1 in region I-AA play while Abbeville improves to 2-0 in Region I-AA play. The Eagles struck first in the game as Kjay Proctor found Kaleb Swaney in the endzone to complete a 30-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute to go in the first quarter to go up 7-0 over the Panthers. Abbeville struck back with three touchdowns on the ground in the second quarter to build a 21-7 halftime lead as Jay Hill (12 yards), quarterback Damarcus Leach (49 yards) and Altavious Patterson (one yard) all scored for the Panthers during the run. The Panthers tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter as Na'Gavin Calhoun started the second half with a 16-yard scoring run to make it 28-7 with just over four minutes to go in the third quarter and Leach scored his second from 61-yards out to push their lead to 37-7 with over three minutes to go in the third quarter. Abbeville opened the fourth quarter with Leach finding Jaden Baylor from 17 yards out to give the Panthers a 41-7 lead before they made it 49-7 when the Panthers Kendall Cole recovered a Chesnee fumble in the endzone with just over ten minutes to go in the game. On the ensuing Chesnee possession, Proctor collected his second touchdown pass of the night as he found Kaylob Blanton for a 21-yard scoring strike with just over five minutes to go. Karson Norman capped the scoring for Abbeville with a 49-yard scoring run to give the Panthers the 56-15 victory. Kjay Proctor led the Eagles with 13 completions for 176 yards passing and a pair of scores. Adonis Burgess led the Eagles in receptions with five catches for 76 yards while Kaylob Blanton finished with five catches and 48 yards receiving along with a touchdown as Kaleb Swaney caught three passes for 52 yards and a score. Jha'Louis Hadden led the Panthers in rushing with 135 yards and a score on 10 carries. Damarcus Leach and Karson Norman each topped 100 yards rushing and added a score as Leach ended the game with 109 yards and Norman added 106 yards. Leach completed four passes for 56 yards and a score while Jaden Baylor caught the touchdown pass for the Panthers. The Eagles will be back at home next Friday when they host the Blacksburg Wildcats on homecoming. The Wildcats fell 33-29 to Liberty this past Friday as kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.
