Chesnee High School introduced their new head football coach Clay Lewis to the media on Monday morning before a meet and greet with the community at the school later in the evening. Coach Lewis said that he was very excited for this day to finally get here.
"I'm very excited to finally get here and to get to meet the kids," said Coach Lewis. "I'm ready to start putting names to faces and to get to know the kids a little bit." Lewis is known for his emphasis on strength and conditioning and he said that it will be a focus for him with the Eagles. "It's like I told our kids, strength and conditioning is one of the most important things we can do to improve ourselves on the football field," said Coach Lewis. "It's not just about lifting weights and maxing out but it's about building both our speed and our strength. I want to make sure that our kids goal isn't just how much you lift but that they use the proper techniques and to do things efficiently that benefit us on the football field." At Hibriten High School in North Carolina Lewis' teams were known for winning lots of games and using a triple option offense to accomplish those feats and while the Eagles will look similar Lewis says that what formation it will be out of is still yet to be determined. "I like the offense that gives us the best chance to win," said Coach Lewis with a laugh. "We want to be able to run the ball and have an efficient passing game and we'll adapt it however we need to fit the personnel that we have with this team." On the defensive side of the ball Lewis says that the team will be a multiple 4-3 defense with the ability to switch up depending on the offenses they will be facing each week. "We base out of a 4-3 but we want to be able to adapt," said Coach Lewis. "Depending on what we see each week we will adjust to what we need to stop." Coach Lewis says that his reception when being out in the community has really impressed him and he's looking forward to meeting more of the community on Monday night. "Chesnee is a very neat community and really reminds me a lot of where I grew up in eastern North Carolina," said Coach Lewis. "I have enjoyed meeting a lot of people here and everyone has been real nice to me. The people seem to really support the football team and want to see a successful team and we're going to get there." Comments are closed.
