Chesnee used some early offense, and a great performance on the mound from Clemson signee Nate Lamb to defeat Landrum 3-0 on the road Thursday night.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the 1st inning with a RBI single from Nate Lamb that drove home Luke Cash. Later in the inning, Nolan Hammett hit a bloop single to shallow right field to score Dawson Williamson to make it 2-0 midway through the 1st inning. In the 2nd inning, Bo Walker reached on a error, and would later come around to score on a Kobe Miller single to make it 3-0. After the 2nd inning neither team would plate a run as the game turned into a pitcher's duel. Christian Melick had 7 strikeouts for the Cardinals over 5 innings and John Siary struck out 3 over the final two innings to give Landrum 10 strikeouts as a team. Chesnee's Nate Lamb carried a no-hit bid into 6th inning, then Turner Sloan hit a sharp single back up the middle for the only hit of the night for the Cardinals. Lamb would recover to strikeout the next batter, but due to a dropped 3rd strike the batter advanced to 1st and Lamb responded by striking out the next 3 batters to give him a total of 4 in the inning. That would be the only hit Lamb would allow and he only issued one walk over 7 innings pitched. Lamb struck out 14 Landrum batters, including 6 of the final 7 Landrum batters. Lamb had all of his pitches working for him tonight, including a knee buckling curveball. With this win, Chesnee improves to 3-0 in region play and maintains the top spot in the region standings. Chesnee will return to the diamond tomorrow nightas they finish the season series with Landrum at Dean Jones Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Comments are closed.
