Chesnee scored two runs in the seventh inning, and got a solid game on the mound from Clemson signee Nate Lamb to down the Blacksburg Wildcats 2-1 at Dean Jones Stadium.
Blacksburg's Kirby Connell and Chesnee's Nate Lamb both had great nights on the mound to give each team a chance to win. Connell, the Tennessee commit, helped his own cause in the 4th with a solo shot to left field. The home run was Connell's 5th of the season. Connell scattered 7 hits and struck out 11 over 6 2/3 innings. Nate Lamb kept the Eagles in with his own great performance on the mound. Lamb gave up just two hits, and none in the final 3 innings. Lamb also struck out 9 wildcat batters with the lone blemish being the Connell home run. Chesnee Head Coach Scott Wease expected a big performance from his Senior Ace, "he is our guy, and we knew he would give us a shot. He made one bad pitch and their guy made him pay for it, but he got right back in it and kept battling and held them at one to give us a chance late" Connell held the Eagles off the scoreboard until the 7th inning. After Connell retired the leadoff man, Dawson Williamson hit a double to right center. Nate Lamb was intentionally walked to give the Eagles runners on 1st and 2nd. A wild pitch on the 3rd strike to Kip Bagwell allowed both runners to move up 90 feet. Nolan Hammett was intentionally walked to load the bases. A wild pitch with Jonathan Bishop at the plate allowed Dawson Williamson to score the tying run. Later in the at bat the Blacksburg Catcher had an errant throw on an attempted pickoff at 3rd that allowed Nate Lamb to score the winning run. Chesnee Head Coach Scott Wease was pleased with his team's ability to keep battling and finally plate a couple of runs against Connell, "Connell is a very good pitcher, we had opportunities, and we didn't score early. We just kept putting a little pressure and a little pressure then made a flare for the dramatic at the end which drives a coach crazy. Hats off to their guy(Connell) he did a great job tonight" The teams will face each other again tomorrow night as Chesnee travels to Blacksburg, first pitch is scheduled for 7pm. Comments are closed.
