On Tuesday Evening, The Lady Eagles used a brilliant performance on the mound from Paige Scruggs, and two big innings at the plate to rout the Blacksburg Lady Wildcats 11-0 in 6 innings to win the region opener for the Lady Eagles.
Scruggs allowed two hits in the 1st inning, but only allowed one Blacksburg batter to reach base the rest of the game. Scruggs struck out 5 Wildcat batters, and didn't issue a walk. Chesnee Head Coach Ashley Height was pleased with her young freshman pitcher and her ability to come back strong after allowing two base runners in the 1st, "Paige, she stays after it all the time and I love that about her. She is one that is going to keep no matter what happens and is not going to let it get to her." The Lady Eagles got on the board when Sam Carver scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 4th. She would be the 1st in a string of 5 consecutive Chesnee batters to score and the Lady Eagles scored 7 runs in the inning. Ali Scruggs had a big 2 RBI single to to extend the Chesnee lead to 5-0. The Lady Eagles got another big inning in the bottom of the 6th. Paige Scruggs was able to drive in Sierra Bowen for her 2nd RBI with a double and Sam Carver was able to drive in Scruggs for her 2nd RBI. Becca Watson hit a line drive two-run home run that echoed off the scoreboard in left centerfield to make the score 11-0 and end the game due to the 10 run rule. Chesnee Head Coach Ashley Height was pleased with how her team responded at the plate after early struggles, "we had those problems at the plate, but I think we picked it well. This is a team that never gives up no matter what is going. I was proud of them especially to end the game with a walkoff." The Lady Eagles will be back in tomorrow night at R.S. Central (N.C.).
