For five innings, Chesnee's Sam Carver and Cheraw's Bailey Pace battled in a great pitchers dual. While batting in the bottom of the 5th, Chesnee pitcher Sam Carver took a pitch to the lower part of her leg that knocked her to the ground . Carver tried her best to battle through the pain, but the injury hampered her in the circle.
In the 5 innings pitched before the injury, Carver struck out 5 and scattered 6 hits while pitching a shutout. In the final two innings, Cheraw scored 6 runs to win 6-0 to advance to the District Championship on Wednesday. Cheraw scored two in the 6th on a two RBI double by Abby Kulo. Cheraw added four more in the 7th with RBI double by Eryn Butler, a two RBI double by Bailey Pace, and a RBI single by Jazz Dixon. Chesnee's Mattie Martin had a nice night at the plate, both as a batter and defensively at Catcher. Martin went 2-2 with a walk at the plate and made a nice throw to throw out a Lady Brave trying to swipe 2nd in the top of the 4th. Cheraw finished the regular season in a four-way tie for the region championship, but after tiebreakers finished with the 4th seed going into the playoffs. Chesnee Head Coach Ashley Height knew going in her team had a tough task ahead of them "Cheraw comes out of one the toughest regions in upper state and we knew they were good. We knew they were a four seed, but that didn't matter. We played them last year, and knew they didn't lose a whole lot. For our young team to battle like that with them was awesome." The Lady Eagles will be back in action Monday when they take on the Gray Collegiate Lady War Eagles in a elimination game. Comments are closed.
