In the 1st round of the 2A playoffs, the Southside Christian Lady Sabres used two big runs in the 2nd half to down the Lady Eagles 48-30.
The Lady Eagles got off to a solid start in the 1st half as they led 18-13 at the half, but depth became an issue in the 2nd half as they were without a key starter. The Lady Sabres opened the 3rd quarter on a 9-1 run to go in front 22-19, and the Lady Eagles were never able to get the lead back. While the Lady Eagles are disappointed with how the season ended, Head Coach Carey Burns was pleased with the progress her team made this season, "I think the future looks bright for Chesnee Basketball. We have a lot of good girls, good athletes coming up, and I look forward to coaching them." Whitney Haulbrooks and Carley Hammett did a terrific job defensively on All-State guard Hannah Fuller. Fuller was limited to 1 point until 5:45 left in the game. Coach Burns was pleased with the defensive effort on Fuller, "They played a very hard defensive game all night long. They stayed in man to man on her the whole game, and done a good job." Chesnee was led by Junior guard Sierra Bowen, who had 10 points. Abbey Ray and Paige Scruggs added 7 points each for the Lady Eagles. Carley Hammett added 4 points and Jessa Beach added 2 points to round out the scoring. Emma Wilt lead the Lady Sabres with 20 points. Hannah Fuller added 13 points, and Chloe Greer added 10 points. The Lady Eagles have no seniors and have several solid players coming up from JV and the middle school level. The Lady Eagles will have a solid foundation to help them transition into Region II-3A next season. Comments are closed.
