RS Central Lady Hilltoppers used back to back big innings in the fifth and the sixth innings to defeat the Chesnee Lady Eagles 12-2.
Chesnee pitcher Sam Carver got the Lady Eagles off to a solid start by striking out three batters through the first two innings. RS Central's Emma Rogers responded for the Lady Hilltoppers by sitting down nine out of the first ten batters she faced and erased the lone base runner on a double play started by a great catch in centerfield by Farryn Smith. The Lady Hilltoppers got on the board in the top of the third inning when Maddie Summers had a RBI double and was soon followed by Katie Hunt with another RBI single to give RS Central a 2-0 lead. Chesnee would respond in the fourth inning as Sierra Bowen hit a laser to dead center field for a RBI double while Ali Scruggs followed it up with a single to plate another run. Katie Hunt and Kadence Hopper helped the Lady Hilltoppers pull away in the fifth inning as Hopper hit a three run home run and Hunt got a two RBI single before RS Central added another run on a Chesnee error. Hopper helped RS Central have another big inning in the sixth when she hit her second three run homer of the game. Maddie Summers added a solo home run to push the RS Central lead to the final margin of 12-2. Hopper had a huge night for RS Central as she went 2-4 with two home runs and six RBIs. Summers, and Hunt also had big nights as Hunt went 3-4 with three RBIs while Summers went 3-4 with two doubles, a home run and two RBIs. Chesnee got a good night from senior Sierra Bowen as she went 3-3 with two doubles and a RBI. "Sierra is one of our seniors and she is out there leading by example," said Chesnee head coach Tripp Fogle. "She is squaring the ball up really well right now."
