The Chesnee Lady Eagles downed the Woodruff Lady Wolverines 3-0 after having to rally to win the last two sets.
Chesnee got out to an early 11-5 lead in set one, and never looked back as the Lady Eagles took a wire to wire win 25-15. Woodruff came out strong in the 2nd set. The Lady Wolverines lead 15-12 at one point before the Lady Eagles were able to rally to win the set 25-20. Katelyn Barrett and Shenandoah Bishop combined for a beautiful dig to help get the Lady Eagles' rally going. Woodruff got out to another fast start in the third set as they lead 5-1 early on but the Lady Eagles would once again rally to win the 3rd set 25-22. Chesnee had to battle back in sets two and three and Chesnee Head Coach Katie Jolley was pleased to see her team clamp down in crunch time. "We were tight on both of those sets at twenty and that is when it gets crunch time,” said Coach Jolley. “We stepped up and finished strong on both of those to get the win.” The Boiling Springs Sports Journal Athlete of the Week this week Abbey Ray had a great night for the Lady Eagles as she had 24 digs, 2 aces, and 9 kills. AC Yelton also had a big night for the Lady Eagles with 14 digs and 9 kills. Libero Shelby Harris had a nice night on the defensive end with 16 digs. Katelyn Barrett and Olivia Gardner both had nice nights for the Lady Eagles as Barrett had 8 digs and 6 kills and Gardner had 7 digs. The biggest accomplishment of the night came from Chesnee senior Abby Fisher who lead the way for the Lady Eagles with twenty-one assists and eight digs. Fisher also collected her 1,000th career assists in set two. Fisher was quick to give her teammates credit for her accomplishment. "It is really because of my teammates and it's not really because of me,” said Fisher. “My stats really depend on my hitters, because they have to get amazing kills for me to get an assist." Chesnee Head Coach Katie Jolley was proud of her senior's consistent play to reach this milestone. "It just shows how consistent she is to be able to set a consistent ball. Even this season she has had between 20 and 30 assists a game." Coach Jolley said. The Lady Eagles will be back in action tomorrow night as they return to region play to host Carolina.
