The Lady Cavaliers of East Rutherford had to overcome a fourteen point first half deficit but they did just that as they captured the 2017 Lowe’s Roundball Classic with a 56-53 win over the Gaffney Lady Indians.
After trailing Gaffney 33-19 in the first half the Lady Cavaliers went on an 11-2 run over the first three minutes of the third quarter to get the game back within three. They were able to tie the game at 38-38 with 1:19 left in the third quarter. Gaffney was able to reclaim a four point lead at the end of the third quarter when Jada Miller hit a layup and Jasmine Oglesby hit two free throws. The fourth quarter saw a back and forth battle between both teams with East Rutherford being able to complete their fourteen point comeback and winning the first ever Lowe’s Roundball Classic Championship for the Lady Cavs. East Rutherford junior Osha Makerson was named Tournament MVP while Kendra Ross was named All-Tournament. Ross and junior Brooklyn Henderson led the Lady Cavs with fourteen points a piece in the championship game. Gaffney’s Mariah Corry was named All-Tournament and led the Lady Indians with fourteen points in the championship game. Comments are closed.
