EASLEY, SC - The Chesnee girls' golf team continued to show their strong play in the 2023 season as they traveled to Easley on Monday and came away with every trophy that was given away at the event held at the Smithfield Country Club. The Eagles shot an impressive score of 315, which was six shots better than second-place TL Hanna who shot a score of 321 and 40 shots ahead of third place Daniel. Chesnee was led by individual champion Olivia Roberts as she won the event with a tournament low score of 71 while being joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Addy Parker who finished in fourth place on the individual side of the event with a score of 74. Fellow local school Chapman continued their improved play as they shot a score of 390 at the course for an eighth-place finish, which was just nine shots behind Blue Ridge, who the Panthers look to battle against for their region championship in a few weeks. Chapman was led by Adeline Tood who shot a score of 83 on Monday afternoon. Chesnee and Chapman will next be in action on Tuesday when they once again travel down Intestate 85 to compete in The Jack golf tournament at the Cross Creek Golf Club in Seneca. CHESNEE VOLLEYBALL The Chesnee volleyball fell just short in a hard fought battle as they traveled across the state line to face off against East Rutherford in a match the Eagles loss 3-2 in five sets on Monday.
The Eagles went ahead in the first set as both teams were tied at 24-24 before Chesnee scored the final two points to take a 26-24 win in the set and a 1-0 lead in the match. East Rutherford won the next two sets (25-17, 25-12) to take a 2-1 lead in the match but Chesnee fought back to win the fourth set 25-23 to even the match up at 2-2. With the match on the line the Eagles kept fighting but it was East Rutherford who was able to get to the 15-point mark first, but just barely, as they defeated Chesnee 15-13 to win the set and the match. Chesnee head coach Katie Jolley was proud of how her team kept battling throughout the match even on a night they didn't play their best. "I was proud of how we kept fighting," said Jolley. "We didn't have our best night but kept working and trying to play the best possible. East Rutherford is a very good defensive team, and we were able to see different things that we need to work on as we go into the second round of region play." Pearl Holloway had a big night for the Eagles registering a triple-double with 13 kills, 31 assists, and 37 digs on Monday night. Hayden Roberts also had a big night coming away with a double-double of her own grabbing 13 kills and 27 digs for the Eagles. Harley Grady had a good night on the back row coming away with 23 digs to go along with two ace serves. Maggie Blanton was strong on the frontline getting five kills to go along with four and a half blocks. Jayla Dunn, Payden Pitman and Carlee Turner each added four kills of their own. Chesnee will get back to region play on Tuesday night when they host Blacksburg in a matchup set to begin with JV action at 5:30 PM and the varsity match at 7:00 PM. Comments are closed.
