KERSHAW, SC - The Chesnee volleyball team saw their quest to defend their state championship end on Tuesday night as they fell to Andrew Jackson 3-1 but it wasn't for the lack of the effort as the Eagles battled throughout the match.
The Eagles fell in the first two sets 25-17 and 25-18 before battling back in the third set. In the third set the Eagles were tied 24-24 and were able to score the final two points of the set to grab a 26-24 victory in the set and cut the Tigers lead to 2-1 in the match. In the fourth set Andrew Jackson took back control of the match as they downed the Eagles 25-19 to win the set and take the match 3-1 over Chesnee. For three seniors it was their final match for the Eagles as Kaitlyn Barrett, Kyleigh Thompson, and Brie Smith all played strong matches in their final appearances for the Eagles volleyball team. Kaitlyn Barrett finished the match with 24 kills and 20 digs while Kyleigh Thompson added 16 digs as Brie Smith finished the night with 14 digs along with one and a half blocks. "I am so proud of how all the girls battled and kept playing hard tonight," said Chesnee coach Katie Jolley. "We had a tough night but never gave up. We're really going to miss Kaitlyn, Kyleigh, and Brie next year." Pearl Holloway also had a good night as she led the team in assists with 29 assists, six kills, and one and a half blocks while Kyleigh Thompson added 16 digs. Comments are closed.
