CHESNEE, SC - One day removed from picking up a victory over the state line, the Chesnee volleyball team returned home on Thursday to open region play and came away with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Blacksburg Wildcats.
"It felt great to get our first region win tonight," said Chesnee head coach Katie Jolley. "We moved really well tonight and served aggressively." The Eagles came out of the gate on fire to start the match as they took an impressive 25-6 win in the first set and took an early 1-0 lead in the match. While Blacksburg was able to make the next two sets a little closer, it wasn't close enough as the Eagles won the second set 25-14 and the third set 25-13 to win the match three sets to none. Pearl Holloway led the way for the Eagles as she recorded seven kills, 26 assists, and seven ace serves as she helped her big night in the assist column also meant a big night for her hitters. One of those hitters that had a big night was Carlee Turner who led the Eagles with 13 kills on Thursday night. Olivia Richey added seven kills of her own while Maggie Blanton, who also had two blocks, and Hayden Roberts each added two kills each while Roberts also added six digs and two ace serves. "Pearl did a great job distributing the ball to a variety of hitters again," said Jolley. "The hitters done a great job of hitting and coming away with points." While the hitters had a great game, the Eagles also got a strong game from their backline as Haley Edmonds led the team with 18 digs and fellow backline player Harley Grady had a big night from the service line with five ace serves. Chesnee will be back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Landrum for another region matchup. Comments are closed.
