CHESNEE, SC - The Chesnee volleyball team honored their four seniors in their final regular season home match with a hard-fought 3-2 region victory over Greenville Tech Charter on Tuesday night.
The Eagles honored seniors Haley Edmonds, Mitchell Wofford, Emma Showen, and Olivia Richey who all had big nights in the Chesnee win over Greenville Tech Charter. "I am so proud of the way the ladies didn't give up," said Chesnee head coach Katie Jolley. "It was such a great battle and both teams played great defense along with hitting good shots. I am so glad that this group of seniors got to win their last home match." The first set saw both teams tied at 25-25 and both teams exchanged points to a 30-30 score before Greenville Tech scored the final two points for a 32-30 victory. The second set was very similar to the first set as both teams battled to a 25-25 tie that saw both teams exchange points to the 29-29 mark but this time it was the Eagles that took advantage as they scored the final two points of the set for a 31-29 victory in the set to tie the match at 1-1. In a match that started off unconventionally, the third set saw the first normal score of the match as Chesnee carried over the momentum from their second set victory to capture a 25-20 victory in set three. Greenville Tech Charter battled back in the fourth set to even up the match with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set. In the fifth and final set, it was Chesnee that was able to come away with a 15-13 victory in the set and a 3-2 match victory. Senior Haley Edmonds had a huge night on defense for the Eagles as she registered an outstanding 55 digs on Tuesday night. Fellow senior Mitchell Wofford added 25 digs of her own while senior Emma Showen added 10 digs and three ace serves. Senior Olivia Richey helped control the frontline for the Eagles on Tuesday night as she had six kills and a block. Chesnee's Pearl Holloway had another impressive night for the Eagles as she registered a triple double with 10 kills, 34 assists, and 14 digs on Tuesday night. Hayden Roberts and Carlee Turner added to the Eagles success as they combined for 22 kills with Roberts registering 12 kills and Turner adding 10 kills of her own. Harley Grady helped to the strong defense by the Eagles on Tuesday night as she added 28 digs along with two ace serves. Along the frontline the Eagles got four blocks from Maggie Blanton and four kills from Jayla Dunn. With the victory the Chesnee volleyball team locked up the third seed from the region in the upcoming playoffs and will travel to a still to be determined team for the first-round matchup on Thursday October 20th.
