ABBEVILLE, SC - The Chesnee volleyball continued their strong play in the second half of the season as they now advance to the third round of the 2A playoffs after defeating Abbeville 3-0 on Monday night.
Chesnee head coach Katie Jolley said she’s proud of the growth of her team this season as they've worked hard to get better. "The team has been so hungry to learn and get better," said Jolley. "It's such a pleasure to coach players who aren't complacent and strive to grow in their game as they've stayed aggressive and hungry." Chesnee started off the first set getting a big service run from senior Pearl Holloway while getting five kills from Hayden Roberts. Payden Pitman had some big plays in the first set as well grabbing three kills and a huge block to help the Eagles earn a 25-18 win in the first set and take a 1-0 lead in the match, The second set of the match was a back-and-forth affair as Maggie Blanton had two kills and Pittman had three more kills in the set. Abbie Olson stepped up big at the end of the second set getting two digs, a kill, and a service run that helped the Eagles claim a 25-21 lead over the Panthers. While the third set was another battle between the two teams, it started going the Eagles way when they got a service run from Harley Grady that included two ace serves while Carlee Turner had four important kills in the set to claim a 25-21 win and a 3-0 victory in the match. Pearl Holloway had another big night for the Eagles as she registered a double-double with 32 assists, 16 digs, five kills, and two ace serves. Harley Grady also added 13 digs for the Eagles as the two seniors have been key in the team's success. "Pearl scores in so many different ways as she can go on serving runs, attack the defense, or even setup our other hitters," said Jolley. "She is also very competitive as her and Harley have been really key players for us this season." Hayden Roberts also had a double-double leading the team the 14 kills to go along with 16 digs and six ace serves. Carlee Turner ended the match with eight kills and Payden Pitman added another six kills of her own. Dacie Green also added nine digs for the Eagles against the Panthers in Monday night's matchup.
