The Chesnee Lady Eagles downed the Broome Lady Centurions 3-0 in a key Region II-3A volleyball matchup.
The Lady Eagles improve to 5-1 in region play with two key region games left with Carolina and Chapman. The Lady Eagles still have all of their goals in front of them and Chesnee Head Coach Katie Jolley is pleased her team still has a chance to accomplish all of their goals. "It's huge, they are really trying to take the necessary steps to improve game by game,” said Coach Jolley. “We had a hard weekend, but they bounced back and looked comfortable out there especially in the second set.” The Lady Eagles won game 1 25-16 and lead wire to wire. After Broome had cut into Chesnee's lead to make it 8-6 AC Yelton made a beautiful dig to help put the Eagles up 9-6, and that was as close as the Centurions would get in game one. The Lady Eagles won game 2 25-10 as Katelyn Barrett and Abbey Ray both had nice plays for the Lady Eagles. Katelyn Barrett had a nice kill after a long well played rally by both teams to put the Lady Eagles up 10-6, and Abbey Ray made a diving dig to put the Lady Eagles up 16-7. The Lady Eagles made several great hustle plays as a team, and Coach Jolley was proud of her team's effort saying "we have been trying to improve our defense because it has been more lax recently. They were giving their all, and going after the ball, and trying to get touches any time the ball was hit." The Lady Eagles won game three 25-18 after fighting off a late Lady Centurions rally that saw Broome score five consecutive points. Shelby Harris had several beautiful digs in the game and one ended with a beautiful Shenandoah Bishop kill. The Lady Eagles got a solid effort from their front line as they combined for 37 kills. Coach Jolley was proud of how here front line played. "We really wanted to get Katelyn Barrett and Shenandoah Bishop involved tonight, and they were confident,” said Coach Jolley. “It was huge to have four options instead of being limited.” Abby Fisher had 33 assists for the Lady Eagles as she gets closer to a 1,000 career assists, and she also had 10 digs. Abbey Ray had a double double for the Lady Eagles as she had 13 digs and 10 kills. Shelby Harris had a really nice night on the defensive end with 12 digs. AC Yelton had 13 kills, and Katelyn Barrett had 8 kills for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Carolina at 6pm. Comments are closed.
