Chesnee finished off a clean sweep of Region II-2A with a 30-12 win over Blacksburg on Friday night as they celebrated all their fall sport senior athletes.
“I am proud of our kids effort," said Chesnee head coach Clay Lewis. "It was a great win for our seniors to get the win on senior night.” Chesnee got off to a fast start as they marched sixty-three yards on four play before capping it off with a Camden Burns one yard score as the drive took just over a minute off the clock. On the ensuing Wildcats drive Jeremiah Foster barreled for a first down but the Eagles shut down the Wildcat attack on the next three plays and forced a punt. The Eagles defense forced a fumble deep in Wildcat territory with just under five minutes to go in the first quarter and capitalized on the good fortune. Senior quarterback Nyquille O'Fair found fellow senior Matthew Froemel for a thirty yard gain through the air down to the Blacksburg one yard line before O'Fair punched it in on the following play to double the Eagles lead. On the next Chesnee possession the Eagles drove deep into Wildcat territory but the Wildcats were able to force a fumble and returned it back to the Chesnee forty-two yard line. At that point the Wildcats went on a seven play drive that saw them on fourth down have Zac Painter find Ty Wilson from six yards out for the score. After a failed two point conversion by the Wildcats it gave the Eagles a 14-6 lead they were able to carry into halftime. The Eagles came out focused to start the second half as the defense forced a three and out before the offense used only five plays to score when Camden Burns punched it in from two yards out to increase Chesnee's lead to 21-6. A few possessions later another Wildcat fumble set the Eagles up in great field position and Chesnee once again took advantage a the drive ended with a twenty-nine yard field off the foot of Ian Harris increasing the Eagles lead to 24-6. Blacksburg answered back a few possessions later on a Chesnee turnover as the Wildcats scored on an eight play drive capped off by a six yard touchdown run by Ty Wilson to put the score at 24-12 in favor of Chesnee after Blacksburg once again failed the two point try. The Eagles responded to Wildcats score as Camden Burns and Adam Parks gained sixty-four of the seventy-one yards on the drive which was finished off by Nyquille O'Fair with a seven yard run to score and give Chesnee a 30-12 lead. Chesnee had another big night offensively as they gained over three hundred yards of total offense. Senior Camden Burns led the way with one hundred and thirty-two yards rushing on fifteen carries with a pair of scores. Senior signal caller Nyquille O'Fair also had a big night as he had fifty-four yards rushing and a pair of scores while completing four out of nine passes for sixty-five yards. Defensively the Eagles once again had a well balanced attack as the Eagles had nineteen different players register a tackle. Seniors Grant Webb and Jacob Ingle led the way with five and a half tackles each while Blake Wilson also added five tackles. "It's the way we practice," said Ingle. "We practice like it is a game situation." Chesnee travels to Airport next Friday night to begin their non-region play. Comments are closed.
