The Chesnee Eagles softball team used am offensive explosion and a perfect game in the circle to down the Carolina Trojans 20-0 to open region play on Thursday night.
"Maddie did a great job in the circle tonight and Hannah Henderson did a great job behind the plate," said Chesnee head coach Tripp Fogle. "We also played well defensively in the field." Chesnee pitcher Maddie Handy pitched a perfect game to pick up the win as she struck out eleven of the fifteen batters she faced. Handy also helped her self at the plate going 3-3 while also drawing a walk and adding three RBIs along with scoring two runs. Callie Burns got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to drive in a run in the bottom of the second inning. Chesnee got the leadoff batter on for the second consecutive inning in the bottom of the third inning when Mattie Martin hit a leadoff single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Sam Carver. The Eagles had three consecutive base runners reach base to load the bases and Logan Lawter promptly cleared them with a three RBI double before later scoring on a Carolina error. The Eagles opened the game wide open with fourteen runs in the fourth inning to make it 20-0 when the inning came to an end as Chesnee sent twenty batters to the plate. The Eagles Carver got the scoring started with a RBI double before Handy helped her own cause with a two RBI single before collecting another RBI single later in the inning. Ali Scruggs followed with a RBI single and later scored on a Carolina error. Mattie Martin collected her second hit of the inning as she hit a two RBI single and after the Eagles loaded the bases Shenandoah Bishop cleared them with a three RBI double. The Eagles will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Rebel Invitational that will be held at the Middle Tyger River Complex in Duncan, SC. Comments are closed.
