The Chesnee Eagles fell 63-60 to the Woodruff Wolverines Friday night in an out of region basketball contest as the Wolverines were able to overcome a seven point deficit as they trailed 45-38 at the start of the 4th quarter. Chesnee Head Basketball Coach Andy Pitt was disappointed his team couldn't hold on to the lead his team had entering the fourth quarter, "the most disappointing thing about the last two days is we've had leads going into the 4th quarter and iwe just haven't finished. I told the guys after the game, we have to find a way to learn how to finish." Nate Lamb and Desmond Tate both finished with double doubles for the Eagles as Lamb scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds, with 10 of his 16 coming in the 3rd quarter. Desmond Tate lead the Eagles with 22 points and 13 rebounds, but the Wolverines did a good job defensively to limit him down the stretch. This is the Eagles third game in 5 days and should be beneficial experience for the upcoming Lowe's Roundball Classic when the Eagles will play 3 games in 3 days. Omarion McKelvin had a big 2nd half from the charity stripe for the Wolverines as he scored 6 of his 8 second half points from the line and Tyler West also had a huge 2nd half scoring all 11 of his points in the 2nd half. The Eagles will look to bounce back Tuesday night at home against High Point Academy and then the Eagles will host the Lowe's Roundball Classic at Chesnee High School December 28th-30th. Lady Eagles Fall to Wolverines The Chesnee Lady Eagles fell on the road Friday night 45-25 to the Lady Wolverines. Abbey Ray lead the Lady Eagles with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks. Head Coach Carey Burns was very complimentary when asked about Ray, "Abbey is a playmaker who we look to get the ball in the paint where she can get rebounds and put backs." Sierra Bowen also had a strong game for the Lady Eagles with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Bowen is the Lady Eagles point guard and consistently among the team leaders in rebounds.
This was the Lady Eagles 3rd game in 5 days and 2nd in a row against a 3A school, Coach Burns thinks playing against tougher competition will only benefit the Lady Eagles in Region play "our non-region schedule this season has featured a lot of good teams In the long run this will benefit us playing better teams now, and we will be prepared for the tough competition we'll face in region play" Woodruff was lead in scoring by Kaliyah Gilliam, who had 9 points. Zavia Jeter had a nice all around game for the Lady Wolverines with 6 points and 6 rebounds. The Lady Eagles look to bounce back on Tuesday at home as the face High Point Academy.
