The Chapman Panthers got a strong start from Austin Parr on the mound and used a big three run fourth inning to down the Chesnee Eagles 4-3 in a key Region II-3A baseball contest on Tuesday night.
Chapman starting pitcher Austin Parr had an impressive outing that kept the Eagles off balance as he pitched all seven innings while striking out ten and only allowing two runs. He started his performance out with three strikeouts against the first six batters he faced. Chesnee did manage to break the ice in the bottom of the second as Austin Brown drew a walk and courtesy runner Curtis Stacey scored on a Matthew Wood single. Drake Pike led off the third inning for the Panthers with a single to left and would later come around to score on a ball off the bat of Jake Murray to tie the game at one. Blake Scruggs would give Chesnee their second straight inning of having the leadoff hitter reach base in the bottom of the third by reaching on a Panther error. Scruggs would later come around and score along with Austin Brown on a Jacob Henson two RBI single. Chapman would regain the lead with a three run fourth inning as Drake Pike and Nelson Crooke both had RBIs in the inning while the Panthers also added an additional run on a Chesnee error. Austin Brown pitched well for Chesnee as he pitched five innings and allowed seven hits while striking out two. Chase Carver came on in relief and pitched back to back scoreless frames in the sixth and the seventh innings for the Eagles while striking out three and allowing only one hit. "Chase did a great job,” said Chesnee coach Scott Wease. “When they took the lead we brought him in and he held them there giving us a shot. Unfortunately we weren't able to pull it out." Chapman moves to 3-0 in region play and will face fellow region teams Carolina and Broome later this week. Chesnee falls to 0-2 in region and will host Chase on Wednesday before traveling to East Rutherford on Thursday to close out the week. Comments are closed.
