The Landrum Cardinals outscored the Chesnee Eagles 38-23 in the second half on the way to a 67-53 win. Turner Ussery made 5 out of 6 free throws to help ice the game for the Cardinals. Landrum also was able to shut down Chesnee's Dez Tate in the second half after he scored 15 points in the 1st half. Chesnee head coach Andy Pitt was disappointed with his teams play in the 2nd half. "When we hit a lull in the 4th quarter we got stagnant with the ball, after I thought we moved the ball well in the 1st half." Landrum was led by Junior guard Trey Smith who scored a game-high 23 points. Foster Bridges added 20 points for the Cardinals. Nate Lamb led the Eagles in scoring with 17 points. Ahmad Smith added 10 points for the Eagles. Dez Tate scored 15 points in the 1st half, but was held scoreless in the 2nd half. Coach Pitt was pleased with how his team has improved and had this to say about the upcoming game, "it does give me hope and the teams in front of us are upcoming key matchups and we are down to must-win time." The Eagles will be back in Tuesday night at Blacksburg. Girls GameLandrum used a big 1st half to down the Lady Eagles 80-34. The Cardinals outscored the Eagles 41-17 in the 1st half, and opened the game on a 12-2 run.
Landrum had a balanced scoring attack as 11 of their 13 players made a basket. The Cardinals were led by Lindsey Hardin, who scored a game-high 13 points. Sarah Price added 10 points for Landrum. Sierra Bowen lead the Eagles with 11 points and Carley Hammett added 6 points for the Eagles. Jessa Beach scored 5 points for the Eagles in her 2nd career start. Coach Burns was proud of the Freshman Beach and had this to say about her, "I was proud of how she played in her first time seeing significant time and her shots will fall she just has to keep shooting."
