SPARTANBURG, SC - The Chesnee Eagles finished out the Steve Sanders Tournament by dropping both of their final two games in pool play on Saturday afternoon.
Chesnee lost their first game of the day 6-1 to the Mauldin Mavericks. Griffin Pickhardt got the Mavericks off to a fast start with a leadoff homer to start the game as Banks Wade doubled the lead in the top of the first inning with a one out RBI single. Mauldin increased their lead in the second inning as they plated three more runs as Josh Smiley drove in a run with a RBI single and Dylan Christie drove in a run with a RBI double and Elijah Franz scored on a error. Kyle Martin tried to scratch the Eagles back in it in the fourth inning with a RBI single but it wouldn't be enough. Martin, Dawson Pruitt, and Tucker Johnson all reached base twice for the Eagles. In the fifth inning, Griffin Pickhardt drove in his second run on a RBI groundout. The Eagles dropped the final game in their pod 7-4 to the Spartanburg Vikings. Carson Williamson started the game with a walk for the Eagles and later scored on a RBI double by Tucker Johnson. Garrett Fulmer set the Vikings up with runners on second and third base with one out in the bottom of the first inning before Ian Squires cashed one run in on a RBI groundout to tie the game. After a one out single in the bottom of the second by Dontavion Davis, the Vikings took the lead on States Farr's RBI single. Chesnee loaded the bases in the top of the third inning and Eli Henderson tied the game with a RBI single. Carson Gossett put the Eagles back in front with a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch plated Dawson Pruitt to give Chesnee a 4-2 lead. Chesnee got back-to-back shutdown innings from Jordan Fitch to take a 4-2 lead into the fifth inning. The fifth inning proved to be decisive for the Vikings as they plated five runs to take a 7-4 lead. Joe Cash and Andrew Dantin each hit two RBI singles and Ian Squires picked up his second RBI as he hit into a fielder's choice that allowed a run to score. The Duncan Park Bracket ended in a three way tie as Greenville, Mauldin, and Spartanburg all ended with a 2-1 record. Chesnee will be back in action on March 7th as they host Travelers Rest with a 6:00 PM scheduled first pitch. Comments are closed.
