Chesnee, SC- The Blacksburg baseball team picked up a Region I-AA win over the Chesnee Eagles with a wild 11-7 win.
Blacksburg couldn't ask for a much better start from the first three batters of the game. Kolby Capps took the first pitch of the game over the left field fence for a leadoff homerun before Jacob Gilfillan singled and Levi Barrett followed with a deep two run homerun to straight away centerfield. Chesnee reclaimed a little momentum to end the inning as the Wildcats loaded the bases with no out, but Tucker Johnson left them loaded by striking out three straight batters. The Wildcats tried to pull away by plating five runs in the top of the third inning as Matty Cody, Kolby Capps, Jacob Gilfillan, and Levi Barrett all hit RBI singles. Cody also score on a Chesnee error. The Eagles responded in the bottom of the third inning as they loaded the bases with no outs. Kohen Orr drove in a run by drawing a walk. Chesnee then scored a run on a play that saw a fly ball called out due to the infield fly rule. The ball was dropped and in the confusion Chesnee's Kyle Martin sprinted home to plate the Eagles second run. Ethan Lawson pulled the Eagles within four runs with a sharp RBI single. The Eagles cut the Wildcat lead to three in the bottom of the fifth inning as Kyle Martin scored his second run of the game. This time on a Tucker Johnson RBI single. Blacksburg once again increased the lead in the top of the sixth inning as Justin Wylie hit a RBI single. Levi Barrett and Wylie each scored on errors to allow the Wildcats to take an 11-5 run into the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles cut the lead to 11-7 in the bottom half of the inning as Daniel Wease's leadoff walk and Carson Williamson's one out double setup Tucker Johnson's two RBI single. Unfortunately for the Eagles that would be as close as they’d get. Carson Williamson and Tucker Johnson each collected a pair of hits for Chesnee with Johnson finishing with three RBIs and Williamson scoring two runs. Levi Barrett reached base five times for the Wildcats with four hits and a walk. He hit a two run homerun, a double, drove in three runs, and scored twice. Jacob Gilfillan collected four hits with a RBI and two runs scored, and Kolby Capps hit a solo homerun, drove in two runs, and scored twice for the Wildcats. Chesnee will return to action on on Tuesday as they travel to Landrum as first pitch is scheduled for 7:30pm. Comments are closed.
