The Chesnee Eagles golf team played back-to-back competitions on Tuesday and Wednesday with a first place and third place finish while Garrett Cooper has been the medalist in both events.
The Eagles shot a combined 158 on Tuesday night finishing eight shots behind winner Dorman and four shots behind host Mauldin at Holly Tree Country Club in Simpsonville. On Wednesday afternoon the Eagles bounced back by improving their score by ten shots from Tuesday as they shot a combined 148 at Village Greens Golf Course. They defeated Chapman (176) and Landrum (209) by over twenty shots on Wednesday and Chesnee head golf coach Andy Pitt is said he is happy with the improvement he has seen in his team. "Our team is coming along as three of our last four matches have seen us shoot in the 140's," said Coach Pitt. "Consistently shooting scores in that range will have us trending in the right direction." Garrett Cooper won medalist honors on both days as he tied Dorman's Thomas Hollingsworth with a score of 35 on Tuesday and then shot another 35 on Wednesday afternoon to claim sole medalist honors. Coach Pitt believes that Cooper still has room to grow despite having two impressive outings this week. "Garrett had a solid week for us this week and earning two medalist honors while not being on top of his game is a confidence boost," said Coach Pitt. "He's still got some things to clean up and room to grow. I'm excited to see him progress moving forward." The Eagles will be back in competition on Monday and Tuesday as they travel to Beech Creek in Sumter to play in the Magnolia Invitational. Comments are closed.
