BLACKSBURG, SC - The Chesnee volleyball team won their first match on Wednesday and on Thursday they backed that up with their first region victory on the road at Blacksburg.
The Eagles backed up their strong night on Wednesday with another impressive performance on Thursday as they defeated the Wildcats 3-0. In the first set, Chesnee and Blacksburg were tied 23-23 before scoring the last two points of the set for a 25-23 victory in the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The first set was the closest that the Wildcats came to defeating the Eagles on Thursday as Chesnee won set two 25-19 and set three 25-22 to take the win in the match. Chesnee got a strong night from Hayden Roberts as she led the team in both kills and ace serves collecting 12 kills and four aces while also adding seven digs. Pearl Holloway continued her strong play on the season coming away with 26 assists, eight kills, and two ace serves. The frontcourt pairing of Jayla Dunn and Payden Pitman made things tough for the Wildcats to get it to the other side of the court as Dunn had three and a half blocks while Pitman had five kills on nine swings and a block. Harley Grady also had a good night for the Eagles as she led the team in digs with 13 digs of her own. The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday when they host Landrum in another region matchup.
