GREENVILLE, SC - The Chesnee volleyball team got down early but fought back in the match to pick up a 3-2 victory over Greenville Tech Charter to end the first half of region play on a winning note.
Chesnee trailed 24-23 in both the first and second sets before eventually falling 25-23 in both sets to trail 2-0 in the match as the Eagles had to win three straight sets to win the match, and that's exactly what they did. "We struggled the first two sets to close out the sets but fought back to win the match," said Chesnee head coach Katie Jolley. "I am so proud of the way the players stayed confident and pushed through." In third set the Eagles were able to cut their deficit in half by defeating the Warriors 25-13 before returning the favor from the first two sets in the fourth set as the Warriors trailed the Eagles 24-23 and it was Chesnee that was able to come away with the 25-23 set victory to even up the match. With the match tied at 2-2, Chesnee left no doubt in the deciding fifth set as they took control and didn't look back winning the set 15-5 to capture the comeback victory in the match. "Our blocking was huge," said Jolley. "Our servers did a great jo the third through fifth sets getting the other team out of their system." Chesnee got another impressive match from Pearl Holloway as she led the team in kills with 15, in assists with 19, and six ace serves while also adding eight digs. Haley Edmonds led the Eagles in digs with an impressive 28 digs while Maggie Blanton led the team in blocks with three and a half. Hayden Roberts and Carlee Turner each had five kills each on Thursday night while Olivia Richey was just behind them with four kills of her own. With the win the Eagles finish the first half of their region play with a 3-2 record and will start the second half of their region schedule on Tuesday when they travel to Blacksburg.
