UNION, SC- The Chesnee softball needed an extra frame to down Union County 4-3 to open their season on Friday night.
Maddie Handy hit a game winning homerun in the eighth to earn herself a win in the circle as she also pitched a complete game for the Eagles. Union County got off to a quick start as Caroline Davis blasted a two run homer in the bottom of the first inning to give the Yellow Jackets an early 2-0 lead. Mikayla Cannon had a big night for the Eagles as she hit a RBI double in the fifth inning, and drove in a run on a fielder's choice to tie the game in the seventh. Bixley Koon and Handy each had two hits for the Eagles. Mackensie Ford and Caroline Davis each had a multiple hit game for the Yellow Jackets. Handy picked up the win in the circle as she pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts while Abby Benfield threw a complete game with five strikeouts for the Yellow Jackets. Chesnee will be back in action on Wednesday as they will travel to Clover for a scheduled 6:00 PM first pitch. The game was originally scheduled as a home game but has been changed to be played at Clover. Comments are closed.
