XHESNEE, SC - The Chesnee softball team downed Landrum 2-1 in eight innings to complete a perfect region schedule for the third straight season in a row on Monday night in front of the home crowd.
"It's great," said Chesnee head softball coach Tripp Fogle when asked his feelings about completing a third straight perfect region schedule. "It's a testament to the consistency of hard work that our girls are willing to put forth. Being able to make this run with 3 individual groups has been special and unique." The low scoring affair was thanks to excellent efforts by both pitchers on each team as Chesnee's Maddie Handy and Landrum's Sydney Price had quite the battle from the pitching circle. Handy scattered four hits while striking out eleven batters as Price scattered four hits while striking out four batters as both pitchers threw complete games. Landrum got on the board first when Abby Hammer hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, which was one of her two hits on the night. The Eagles struck back in the bottom of the seventh inning as Claire Owens drove in Skylar Barrett to tie the game. Chesnee secured the win in the bottom of the eighth when Natalie Morris drove in Maddie Handy with a key hit. Barrett, Handy, Morris, and Aubrey Aparis each collected a hit for the Eagles on a night that hits were hard to come by. The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday night at 7:30 PM for their regular season finale when they host 1A powerhouse Lewisville. Comments are closed.
