Chesnee softball excelled in all area of the game as they opened region play with a 19-0 win over Brashier Middle College on Tuesday night.
"Everybody had the opportunity to contribute to this win and as a coach that's what you want every time," said Chesnee head coach Tripp Fogle. "I'm very proud of them." Maddie Handy followed Scruggs with a triple before Shenandoah Bishop drove her home with a RBI double to put the Eagles up 3-0 after one inning of play. The Eagles exploded for eleven runs in the bottom of the second inning as Emma Fogle got the inning started with a hit by pitch before stealing a pair of bases. Fogle was followed by a walk from Mattie Martin and both players came around to score on a two RBI double from Ali Scruggs before Sam Carver followed Scruggs with a RBI single of her own to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead. Chesnee allowed only two base runners on Tuesday night with one reaching on a hit and another on a walk. "Sam and Ali were sharp tonight," said Fogle. "It's nice to see their hard work payoff. I hope we can continue to build off the success we had tonight when we play again Thursday." The Eagles sent thirteen batters to the plate with each batter reaching base and also scoring a run. "I'm glad I could pitch well for my team and it feels good to put together a good team win," said Chesnee's Sam Carver. "We didn't perform the way we wanted to this past weekend and we came in with a mindset to not let that happen again." Ali Scruggs went four for four with two doubles and a triple on Tuesday night to go along with three RBIs and four runs scored.
