The Chesnee Eagles used a huge first quarter to down the Carolina Trojans 54-26 for the Eagles first region win of the season. The win also puts the Eagles in line for a playoff spot.
Chesnee Head Coach Bill Owens was proud of his team after the win, "The important thing was to win this game to make the playoffs, because anything can happen once you make it. These guys did a good job of sticking together. I can't tell you how good it is to see these kids smile after a game again." Senior Captain Malik Busby was proud of his teams win and his role as a senior leader, "This win means a lot to me. I love to help other people get better. After we (the seniors) leave I want Chesnee to keep improving, so my job is to get the younger players ready for when we aren't here anymore.” Chesnee got the scoring started early in the 1st quarter as Dez Tate picked off a Austin Neese pass and returned it 41 yards for a Chesnee touchdown. Chesnee would follow that with a 6 yard touchdown run by Jacob Kimbrell on Chesnee's first offensive drive of the game. Kimbrell would later connect with Dez Tate for a 19 yard touchdown pass, the first of four touchdown passes for Kimbrell. Chesnee would finish the quarter with back to back touchdowns catches by Alijah Means. Means had a big game for the Eagles as the Sophomore collect his first three touchdown catches at the varsity level and finished with 7 catches for a 113 yards. Coach Owens was proud of Means and the other young players who found success for the Eagles. “Alijah is one of a bunch of young kids that played really well for us. He has got a lot of ability, and I was glad to see us be able to get the ball to him and all of our skill guys" Owens said. Josh Russell would open the 2nd quarter scoring for the Eagles as he rumbled in from 19 yards out to give the Eagles a 40-6 lead. Later in the quarter Kimbrell would hookup with Means once again this time for a 44 yard touchdown pass The Eagles did a great job limiting the Trojans in the first half as Carolina quarterback Austin Deese finished the first half 4 out of 13 for 41 yards and 3 interceptions. All the Chesnee interceptions were by Dez Tate. Rodney Alexander and Adam Coxey almost had two more interceptions for the Eagles. Chesnee Senior Captain Matthew Wood was proud of defense, "All week we prepared to play well defensively, and we were able to make the plays when we had the opportunity." Camden Burns would get the Eagles back on the board in the 3rd quarter with a 6 yard pass to Curtis Stacey. Stacey made a nice move on a Trojan defender as he scored his first touchdown of the season. Jacob Kimbrell had a nice night for the Eagles at quarterback as he finished 13-17 for 252 yards and 4 touchdowns. Kimbrell also rushed 3 times for 20 yards and a touchdown. Camden Burns and Jonah Rollins also played well for the Eagles at quarterback. Josh Russell continued his solid season as the bruising senior running back finished with 64 yards on 4 carries and a touchdown. Dez Tate had a great night for the Eagles as he finished with 3 interceptions and one was returned for a touchdown. He also caught 5 passes for 71 yards and another touchdown. Matthew Lawter, Curtis Stacey, and Lorenzo Duren each had nice plays at wide receiver for the Eagles. Stacey finished with 2 catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.
