SUMTER, SC - After two days of competition, the Chesnee boy's golf team came away with a finish just outside the top-10 at the Magnolia Invitational in Sumter on Tuesday afternoon.
After a rough outing on day one, the Eagles rebounded in tough conditions on Tuesday to pick up a 13th-place finish out of 24 teams. "We had a better second day is some tough weather as our guys played better despite the windy and colder conditions," said Chesnee head coach Andy Pitt. "I feel we gained some valuable experience and it's always good to travel to a tournament where we can play against teams you don't see very often. As most teams scores went up on the second day, I think we were one of the few teams that actually improved in tougher conditions." The Eagles finished the tournament with a two-day score of 517, which was just fifteen shots from being out of the top-10 and just five shots out of 11th place. Chesnee was the second highest finishing 2A team in the tournament as Central (Pageland) was the only team from that division to finish ahead of them. Chesnee finished the second day with a score of 38 over par which was the tenth best score for the second day of the tournament. Creighton Rentz led the Eagles on the second day with a score of 80 as he knocked three shots off his day one score of 83 followed by Jake Hefner (86) and Peyton Lawter (87). South Aiken won the 2023 Magnolia Invitational with a score of 449, followed by Nation Ford (459) and Central (467). Miles Eubanks from South Aiken and Ben Mills from Nation Ford tied for a two-day total score of 144 on the individual side of the tournament. Chesnee will compete against Broome at Palmetto Hills Golf Club on Monday before returning to tournament play on Wednesday in the Spartanburg County tournament at Woodfin Ridge. Comments are closed.
