SPARTANBURG, SC - After a busy few weeks of playing in multiple eighteen-hole tournaments, the Chesnee boys' golf team returned to match play on Monday with a 161-183 victory over Broome at The Creek Golf Club.
"Our guys played better today," said Chesnee head coach Andy Pitt. "It was our first nine-hole match and you could tell we were conditioned. We've played in four tournaments, one of which was a 36-hole event, so playing nine today I feel like we had an advantage." The Eagles were led by Creighton Rentz and Peyton Lawter who were both co-medalist in the event after both shot a score of 39 on Monday night. Jake Hefner (41) and Hughston Johnson (42) were just behind their teammates. While the Eagles played well, Coach Pitt said he believed his team still left some shots on the course along with areas they can improve moving forward. "We still missed some good opportunities throughout the round," said Pitt. "We will work on those moving forward as we prepare for the Spartanburg County tournament on Wednesday." Alex Weathers (41) and Ethan Brown (42) led the Broome golf team on Monday night. Chesnee and Broome will return to the golf course on Wednesday morning when they travel to Woodfin Ridge in Boiling Springs to compete in the 2023 Spartanburg County tournament that will tee off at 10:00 AM.
