The Blacksburg Wildcats downed the Chesnee Eagles 91-84 in double overtime on Friday night. Chesnee rallied twice to keep the game close late in regulation and in the first overtime period behind late baskets from Dez Tate and Nate Lamb had a chance to win the game but a late bucket by Blacksburg's Shaun Garrison in the first overtime period denied the Eagles a chance to close it out. The back and forth affair had 11 lead changes and 13 ties. Jackson Gore came up huge for the Wildcats in the second overtime period as he scored 11 of his 16 points. Gore hit a three-pointer early in the 2nd overtime to put the Wildcats up 79-76 and they never looked back.Brandon Gettys and Shaun Garrison each finished with 15 points for the Wildcats. Dez Tate had a monster game for the Eagles as the junior scored a game-high 37 points with 27 points coming after halftime. Nate Lamb also had a big night for the Eagles with 23 points and connected on 5 three pointers while Dawson Williamson finished with 10 points for the Eagles. Chesnee Head Coach Andy Pitt was disappointed in the outcome "You can't turn the ball over and miss layups and expect to win. It's tough because we had our chances and we let it slip away," Pitt said. "You can't question our effort, the kids battled and laid it on the line we just came up short in our execution" Girl’s GameThe Blacksburg Lady Wildcats outscored the Chesnee Lady Eagles 43-21 in the second half in route to a 63-40 win.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Kendera Amderson who scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half. Jada Ferguson and EB Foster also scored in double figures for the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Eagles were able to hang with the tenth ranked Lady Wildcats until depth became an issue against Blacksburg's smothering full court press. Chesnee coach Carey Burns was proud of her teams effort." I thought our girls played hard tonight. Late in the game their full court press started tiring us out and we just ran out of gas and turned the ball over too much." Shenandoah Bishop had a career high 14 points for the Lady Eagles. Coach Burns was proud of the young freshman '' I was proud of her effort and how she ran the floor" Burns said "She did an excellent job finishing around the basket and at the free throw line."
