Chesnee Girls GolfAfter finishing the 2019 season with a runner-up finish at the state championship tournament, the goal this season for the Chesnee Eagles girls golf team is set on finishing one spot higher and bringing a championship home to Chesnee. Last season the team finished 8-1 in nine hole matches while winning five eighteen hole tournaments including the Lady Rebels Invitational against some of the top teams in the state. The team will look very similar this year as they return five out of six starters from last season as Becca Watson, Olivia Roberts, and Paige Scruggs will all return and be joined by the Eagles two All-State players Sydney Roberts and Isabella Britt. While the Eagles have a lot of experience returning this season they will also look to newcomers Addy Parker and Olivia Shields to not only contribute on the varsity team but also to help lead the Eagles JV team. With their expectations high this season the Eagles will be competing in many big time tournaments this season to help prepare themselves for a run in this year's postseason. "We look forward to competing in the Palmetto Preview and WSCGA High School Invitational to prepare ourselves for a run in the postseason," said Eagles head coach Kyle Scruggs. "Our ultimate goal this year is to improve on last year's finish at the state tournament and bring a title back home to Chesnee." The Eagles will kick off their season on September 2nd in a home match at Meadowbrook Golf Club against St. Joseph's and Greer Middle College. Chesnee VolleyballLast season saw the Chesnee volleyball team finish the season 19-5 where they captured a region championship and with the experience they picked up from last year they plan on making another run at a region championship again this season. After a march to the region championship the Eagles season didn't end until a third round playoff loss to Powdersville, who went on to win the 3A championship last season. With a strong run in 3A last year the Eagles are looking forward to carrying that same momentum into the 2A division this year where they will now be a part of Region II this season competing against teams local teams Blacksburg, Brashier Middle College, Greer Middle College, Landrum and St. Joseph's. AC Yelton and Kaitlyn Barret, who were both All-Region players last season, lead the way for the Eagles this season along with Jessa Beach, Karlee Swaney, and Holly Hines. They will also look to get key contributions from newcomer Brie Smith this season. "We are looking to have a strong team again thus year," said Chesnee head coach Katie Jolley. "The seniors are showing great leadership and the girls are just ready to play." The Eagles will officially start their season on September 8th in a road matchup at Blacksburg. Chesnee Girls TennisThe Chesnee tennis team is still a young program but they are coming off a pretty successful season where they finished second in their region and made it to the second round of the 3A playoffs. Their goal this season is to improve on that record as they enter into the 2A division of the SCHSL. "We are extremely excited about this year," said Chesnee head coach Kunagee Cohen-Nesbitt. "We're looking forward to a great season with lots of wins and hopefully a region championship." The Eagles will have a lot of experience returning this season as they have eight players returning from last year's team including two All-Region players. Some of the players returning to this year's team are Trista Gaffney, Mattie Martin, Ansley Mossburg, Faith Stewart, Eva Vacca, and Lanie Arrowood. Chesnee will open their season with three straight road contests at Woodruff, Landrum, and Broome from August 31-September 2. Chesnee Cross CountryComments are closed.
