Chesnee used a perfect mixture of timely hitting and solid pitching to down Christ Church 2-1 and with a little help from the Landrum Cardinals won their second consecutive Region I-2A title.
Nate Lamb was brilliant on the mound as he allowed one run, struck out 7 Cavalier batters, and he scattered 2 hits over 5 2/3 innings. Austin Brown came in for Lamb when Lamb reached the 85 pitch limit. Brown got out all four batters he faced out including Been Wetenhall, who was called out on a batter interference call as he attempted to steal 2nd base after a lead off single in the 7th. Chesnee Head Coach Scott Wease was pleased with the performance of both of his pitchers, "Nate did a great job and he always gives us a chance to win. Austin came in in a pressure situation and did exactly what we wanted him to do." Christ Church got on the board 1st in the 2nd inning as Walt Garrison scored on a balk call made my the field umpire. Chesnee responded with an RBI single for Dawson Williamson to score Luke Cash to tie the score at 1. Chesnee would advance a runner to 3rd in both the in both the 4th and the 5th innings. In the top of the 7th, both Kobe Miller and Dawson Williamson beat out infield singles and Nolan Hammett drew a walk to load the bases for the Eagles. With two outs, Blake Scruggs stepped to the plate and line a single to the right fielder that scored Kobe Miller to put the Eagles. Another player they help keep Chesnee in the game was second baseman Gabe Murabito. Murabito made an incredible play to end the 5th that prevented Christ Church's Hayden Brown from scoring. Murabito also started a great catch in the 6th that turned into double play. Dawson Williamson had a solid night at the plate as he went 3-4 and drove in Luke Cash in the top of the 3rd. Nolan Hammett went 1-1, but was able to reach base 4 times as drew was hit by a pitch and walked twice. Chesnee baseball will most likely be back in action on Tuesday as they host Southside Christian. Comments are closed.
