CHESNEE, SC - The Chesnee Eagles put on a dominating all-around performance to secure the #2 seed in Region I-AA after a 16-0 win in four innings over the Greenville Technical Charter Warriors on Tuesday night.
"This was an important win," said Chesnee head coach Scott Wease. "It was great to honor our four seniors tonight, and they played well. I'm proud of those guys and ready to push forward towards the playoffs with them." Before the game Chesnee honored four seniors in Eli Henderson, Jordan Fitch, Carson Williamson, and Ethan Lawson. Henderson combined with Tucker Johnson to throw a combined no-hitter as Johnson struck out six batters and Henderson struck out four batters of his own as each worked two innings. A first inning walk was the lone blemish for either pitcher in the game. "It feels amazing to go out there and do my job for my team," said Henderson. "It's great when I can help us have success." Every no hitter seems to always feature a terrific defensive play and this game was no exception. In the top of the third inning, centerfielder Carson Williamson made a great diving catch to his left on a hard-hit liner to rob a sure base hit. The Eagles offense only got one on in the top of the first inning but had at least four runners reach base in each of the final four innings thanks to adjusting during the game to a more patient approach. "We knew we would have to wait on pitches to be able to have success," said Ethan Lawson. "We have such quick hands and knew we had to slow them down to have success." The patient approach immediately provided the Eagles with six runs in the bottom of the third inning. Henderson drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly as Kyle Martin and Kohen Orr each followed with two RBI hits with Martin's being a double. Lawson capped off the inning with another sacrifice fly. Martin added two more RBIs to his ledger in the bottom of the third inning and Carson Williamson added another run on a sacrifice fly. Eli Henderson drove in another run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a fielder's choice and Carson Gossett scored on an error. Daniel Wease added a sac fly of his own. Carson Williamson hit the first of two fourth inning triples to drive in a run before later scoring on an error and Ethan Lawson ended the game with a deep two RBI triple. The win earns the Eagles a home game when the playoffs start on Tuesday and the Eagles seniors were proud of that accomplishment. "It's better than having to play on the road," said senior Eli Henderson. "Last year, we didn't get a chance to play at home. This year we do, and it's a dream come true." "It feels amazing to know we get to play in front of our home crowd one more time," said Carson Williamson. "The crowd energy here is so amazing." Chesnee will be back in action on Wednesday when the travel to Chapman for a 7:45 PM first pitch. Comments are closed.
