On Saturday April 14th, the Chesnee Baseball program will be hosting a 100-inning marathon game as a part of their fundraising efforts to provide Chesnee Student Athletes with the best facilities possible.
Chesnee High School has some of the nicest indoor facilities in the county, and now with the help of the Chesnee community they want to upgrade the outdoor facilities to make them some of the nicest in the area. Chesnee Athletic Director James Hyatt is in his first year as athletic director. Hyatt comes to Chesnee after a legendary career in North Carolina where he is a member of the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Coach Hyatt's teams in North Carolina had some of the best facilities in North Carolina due to hard work and community involvement, "in the last 10-12 years I coached it wasn't uncommon for us to raise $20-30,000 or more for our baseball program. We had everything for 6,000 square foot covered cages, inground dugouts, a baseball storage building, and equipment to help maintain the field." Hyatt said "We raised the money ourselves so we didn't have to rely on the athletic department and take money away from another program, and that gave us the resources to do those things." Chesnee has a goal of $10,000, and the money is going to go towards completing the new outfield wall, purchasing a turtle for home plate, and upgrading equipment. Chesnee also wants to eventually build new dugouts that are sunk into the ground. Chesnee High School is one of the centerpieces of the Chesnee community, and the Chesnee Athletic Department needs the communities help to improve the athletic grounds. "Chesnee High School is the centerpiece of our community, it ought to be the bright shining light on the hill. If we don't get money from the state or the district, we can come together and everybody give small bits of money and time and we can make our facilities as nice as anybodies" Coach Hyatt said "anytime you raise your own money and have your blood sweat and tears into it makes it that much more of a special place people to come and show off improvements. " If you would like to donate to this fundraiser contact Athletic Director James Hyatt or any member of the baseball program. Donations can be made directly to the Baseball program or can be made to the Athletic Department. Comments are closed.
