Chesnee hosted the school's first soccer match on Monday as the Eagles hosted the Broome Centurions. Broome would use three second half goals to pull away to a 5-3 win.
"I think the team played really well, and they tried really hard and played with some real heart in this match tonight," Chesnee Coach Scott Faust said. "I am very proud of this team tonight." Alan Garcia got the game started with an early goal for Broome but Chesnee would answer as Ilya Shubentsev took a beautiful pass from Juan Ventura for a breakaway goal for the first goal in Chesnee history. Shubentsev would tack on another goal for the Eagles to give them a 2-1 lead but Broome would quickly answer with a goal from Owen Wilson to tie it at two. Broome came out of halftime with two straight goals from Owen Wilson to give him a hat trick. Shubentsev would once again respond for the Eagles with another breakaway goal to cut the Centurions lead to 4-3 but a last minute goal by Alan Garcia gave Broome the final margin. DJ Chisholm came up big for the Eagles in goal as he had seventeen saves on the night including ten in the second half. "We really appreciate the strong work in goal with the amazing saves." said Coach Faust. Ilay Shubentsev was a bright spot for the Eagles as he scored the first three goals in Chesnee history. "When he can finish on the breakaways like he did on all three of those goals he is fantastic to watch," said Coach Faust. Chesnee will return to action on Thursday as they host Pickens at 6 PM. |
