INMAN, SC - As part of a two-day basketball tournament this week, the Chapman Lady Panthers faced off with the Walhalla Razorbacks in a return match of sorts from the start of the season.
It was a tooth & nail battle from beginning to end, but Walhalla held off a late rally from the host Panthers for a 41-38 win. A layup from Clara Gramling and a three pointer from Krislyn Wilder staked Chapman to a three-point lead less than 90 seconds into the contest. In the second half, Chapman began to mount a charge with a combination of shooting from long range and tough defense. Spanning the midway point of the third quarter and into the fourth stanza, Gramling hit four triples in as many trips down the court for Chapman, which gave the Panthers a 34-33 lead with 5:30 to play. Walhalla knocked down five of six free throw attempts in the last two minutes of the game to escape with the win. Marnie Baxter led the Razorbacks with 20 points. Gramling led all scorers with a game-high 21 points, followed by Wilder with 11 and Garner with six points for Chapman.
