CONWAY, SC - After a slow start to their bid for a state championship at the 3A state championship tournament at the Hackler Golf Course, the Chapman girls' golf team finished out the tournament strong on Tuesday to claim a top 10 spot finish in the state.
Chapman started the tournament with a score of 390 to finish the first day in seventh place behind Beaufort (381) in seventh and Camden (375) in sixth place. On the second day of the tournament the Panthers cut off almost 30 shots from their score firing a score of 363 to finish in sixth place with a two-day score of 753, which was 22 shots behind fifth place Blue Ridge and nine shots ahead of Beaufort (762). Chapman head girls' golf coach Andy Pitt was proud of his team's performance over the season and how they improved throughout the year. "I'm proud of the girls this season," said Pitt. "They worked hard and really came a long way. We will miss the seniors and now have a solid season to build on moving forward into next year. The future is bright for the program." Waccamaw won the 3A state tournament with a score of 661 over two days shooting a score of 333 on Monday and a score of 328 on Tuesday. They finished 26 shots ahead of second place Daniel who shot a score of 687 over the two days of golf. Chapman's Adeline Todd earned All-State honors as she tied for tenth place with a two-day score of 168 (88, 80). She was joined on the All-State team by Daniel's Peyton O'Brien, who won the individual state championship with a two-day score of 151. They were joined on the All-State team by Aynor's Ella-Kate Barnette, Seneca's Ansley Bryson and Hazel Martin, Blue Ridge's Katelyn Cox, Swansea's Benedicta Pollard, BHP's Kate Gunnells, Waccamaw's Kayla Holek and Anna Brown, and Daniel's Sophia Hepler.
