TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – After a 10 day break due to severe weather last week, the Chapman Panthers finally returned to the court for a Region III-3A game against the Travelers Rest Devildogs on Monday night.
When the final buzzer sounded, the host Devildogs dealt Chapman its first region loss by a final tally of 45-30. Travelers Rest jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but a pair of Krislyn Wilder baskets cut the deficit to one point. In the second quarter, Gabi Huskey knocked down three shots from long distance over a minute span, which extended the Devildogs’ lead to 18-4. During the second half, the Lady Panthers continued to battle back as Wilder, Clara Gramling, and Caroline Garner combined to knock down five shots from the arc, which made it a four possession game late in the final stanza. Wilder finished with a team-high 11 points for Chapman, followed by Garner with nine and Gramling with six. Chapman (1-1 Region III-3A) will have a quick turnaround as they host region opponent Blue Ridge on Tuesday, January 17th at 6 PM. BOYS – Travelers Rest 85, Chapman 42 In the boys’ game, Travelers Rest opened the game with a 17-5 run over the first five minutes of the first quarter and pulled away en route to a win in Region III-3A play. Shawn Cunningham led the Panthers with a team-high 17 points, along with nine points from Colt McAllister. Drew McKibben scored a game-high 30 points, followed by Caleb Mills and Ryder Stauffer with 19 and 16 points, respectively. The Panthers will host Blue Ridge on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
