As cold temperatures swept through the upstate of South Carolina again on Friday night the temperatures didn't seem to have an effect on the Chapman girls soccer team as they started the game on fire defeating Broome 7-0 to improve to 4-1 in region play.
The Panthers spent the first ten minutes of the game attacking the Centurions goal but were unable to capitalize but when the clock clicked just inside the thirty minute mark Chapman was able to get their first goal of the game when senior Elizabeth Franklin broke behind the Broome defense along the right side off a pass from midfield before finding the back of the goal to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Taryn Rogers added to the Panthers lead just two minutes later when she found the bottom left of the goal off an assist from junior Torii Rogers to put the Chapman lead at 2-0. Torii Rogers got her own goal with just over four minutes to go in the first half when she controlled a deflection off a Broome defender in the middle of the box before firing a shot to the bottom left of the goal for a 3-0 lead over the Centurions. Chapman added to their lead thirteen minutes into the second half when freshman Paula Rodriguez took one of the best shots of the game, finding the top left of the net off a shot from the right side of the field, off an assist from junior Ana Madrigal to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead. Over the last six minutes of the game the Panthers added three more goals with one goal each from Torii Rogers, Taryn Rogers, and senior Caroline Grigg. Chapman will be off for spring break before returning to action on April 12th in a pivotal home region match against Woodruff. |
